The Artists

Hamilton Greene:

The very first - and arguably the best - illustrator for the American series, Hamilton Greene was born in 1904 and died in 1966:

Jacques Pecnard:

An illustrator of four of the European "Mini-Golden" editions, Jacques Pecnard was born in France in 1922.

Shannon Stirnweis:

After producing the cover artwork for the two Golden Griffon paperback editions in 1969, Shannon Stirnweis did not encounter the Brains Benton series again until 2007, when Charles Morgan comissioned him to produce cover and internal illustrations for his two unofficial novels, The Case of the Carrier Pigeon and The Case of the Lost Loot. Stirnweis also provided a drawing of Brains and Jimmy that Charles used in his short story Christmas Eve in Crestwood.
